The partnership of the Telfer Digital team and Optika Solutions has kicked off with its first site visit to progress the crusher dump light prediction project in the open pit. By providing a simple indicator and timing to the dispatch operator, they can make high value decisions, redirecting trucks to optimise movements and mining operations.

Telfer Digital Superintendent Brett Green remarked, “this project is the first off the rank which will bring tangible benefits to the Telfer operation. There is a comprehensive program of data-driven decision support and analytics initiatives which I’m excited to be leading for our site.”

The digital program will enhance human capability, enabling our people to make better decisions by grinding down large volumes of data to visualise essential decision points. By utilising the latest in machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques, the team at Optika Solutions will help Newcrest achieve these outcomes across their operations.  Optika, who have a long list of resources clients, views Newcrest’s Digital team as having “the most advanced data science vision, standards and capability we have seen in any of our clients in the mining space to date.”

Founder and CEO of Optika Solutions Matt Schneider said of Newcrest, “Their processes and standards are without doubt the best practice in the mining industry. They demonstrate a high level of maturity and discipline in how they identify, engage and execute data driven projects. We are excited to be working with Newcrest.”

The first project underway at Telfer predicts when the crusher traffic lights will go green. This will provide the dispatch operators with sufficient information to redirect trucks to optimise cycle times and minimize unnecessary queueing at the crushers.
